AFL “Live Site” at Yarra Park, beside the MCG

During the lead up to the AFL Grand Final, Yarra Park, next to the MCG, was transformed into a “Live Site”.  Just like a mini carnival, with various stalls and activities for families to enjoy football finals fever, culminating in the Grand Final players motorcade on the Friday and the game its self on the Saturday.

The pictures you see here were taken shortly after the Grand Final Parade at Yarra Park and the MCG.

Melbourne Cricket Ground

The MCG, as seen from Batman Avenue

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (the “MCG”, or simply “the ‘G) is arguably Australia’s premier sporting arena.

This weekend Australia plays its first match in the 2015 Cricket World Cup at this 100,000 capacity crowd venue.  During this series the MCG hosts five matches, including the final (which hopefully Australia will also play and win) on March 29.

Less than a week after the cricket final, the AFL football season kicks off at same venue on April 2nd.

Each of the MCG pictures you see here are from different folders within the Vic Pics Gallery, you can click each image for more or simply click HERE to search Vic Pics for all images of the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Longest park bench

The longest park bench I’ve ever seen!

Just behind those sunflowers I showed you yesterday, on Batman Avenue, is the longest park bench I’ve ever seen!

Have a seat and enjoy the view, to your left is Melbourne Park and the MCG, ahead is Birrarung Marr and to the right is the city skyline.

As this website grows, I imagine there will be many pictures of the Yarra River, so here’s one to get us started.

Taken from the Southbank Foot Bridge, this shot looks along the Yarra, past Princes Bridge, and towards the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Open Day at the MCG

As we mentioned yesterday, Vic Pics was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today for the MCG Open Day.  The crowd didn’t seem as big as last year’s Open Day, but there was still plenty of people having a look around Australia’s greatest sporting arena, many of them having a kick on the ground too.  This year, you could even go into the Centre Square.

Our pictures from an afternoon wondering around the G are now online in the Gallery, and can be seen here – gallery.vic.pics/Melbourne/MCG/2014/Open-Day

Today is AFL Grandfinal day in Melbourne, and a big congratulations go to the Hawthorn Football Club for defeating Sydney to become the 2014 Premiers.

Of course all the Grandfinal action takes place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and our Vic Pics Gallery has a dedicated MCG page with several galleries of pictures from around the ground, inside and out, taken over the past few years.  We hope to attend the MCG’s open-day tomorrow, so there should be even more pictures from the “G” online shortly afterwards.
