Melbourne Art Centre Spire during White Night 2018

Last Saturday night was White Night Melbourne 2018.  Getting off the train at Flinders Street Station, around 9PM, I spent all night walking the parks and streets of this wonderful city photographing the creative use of light and free street entertainment.  Around nine hours later I made it to the Royal Exhibition Buildings for what is always one of the highlights of White Night, a huge animated projection on the city facing walls of this iconic Melbourne land mark.

I finished off White Night around the back of the Exhibition Buildings with a fire breathing dragon, “The Serpent Mother”.  With flames emanating from it’s entire body, the serpent may have been difficult to photograph in the pitch black of night, but the dawn light made it easy to shorten the exposure to perfectly capture the flames.

Heading towards Parliament Station for the train home, I saw the Sun rising as I crossed Victoria Parade.
